THE BURMADE WAY
Final Burnishing
GLOSS OR MATTE
Awakening the surface. Once the foundational layers are dense, cured, and perfectly flat, we must prepare the piece to receive its final color coats. How we burnish it now dictates its ultimate character—whether it will catch the light or absorb it.
The Petrified Stone (High-Gloss)
For pieces destined to carry a brilliant, reflective sheen, we look to the earth. We meticulously burnish the surface using a piece of fossil wood (petrified wood). This ancient stone smooths the lacquer into a uniform, flawless, silk-gloss foundation.
The Teak Charcoal (Modern Matte)
For a more contemporary, understated aesthetic, we require a different touch. We use fine teak charcoal, rubbing it into the surface to gently diffuse the light. This technique achieves a soft, velvety, non-reflective base that perfectly suits modern interior spaces.
